International Women’s Day is annually held on March 8 to celebrate women’s achievements throughout history and across nations. This day is celebrated in many countries around the world. It is also known as the United Nations (UN) Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace. It commemorates the movement for women’s rights. The first Women’s day observance was held on February 29, 1909. March 8 was declared a national holiday in Soviet Russia in 1917.
